Kay Crinean is President and CEO of Maritime Tidal Energy Corp (MTEC). She has wide-ranging expertise in organizational development and economic and social innovation. She has many years of experience as a senior level executive and project manager in business, government and the not-for-profit sector, and has initiated and led successful multi-stakeholder projects and organizations in Canada and abroad. She was a founder and the first Executive Director of NovaKnowledge, a multi-stakeholder organization which promotes the development of an innovative knowledge-based economy in Nova Scotia. Under her leadership NovaKnowledge fostered dialogue and influenced thinking and policy in government, business and education around leading edge economic trends. In the UK she was the founder and director of a successful five-year national industry program to improve software engineering and quality. As a consultant her primary focus is on projects that combine economic
and environmental sustainability. Kay is a Principal Consultant with MTEC.

Ronald Scott is a former President and a current Director of Maritime Tidal Energy Corp (MTEC). He is a graduate of the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree and a minor in Law. A career in the Information Technology Industry in senior marketing and general management positions with IBM, Unisys and DMR Consulting culminated with his appointment as President of ITI Education Ltd. Since completing this assignment Ron has focused most of his attention on providing leadership for Maritime Tidal Energy Corporation. Ron is a Principal Consultant with MTEC.

Paul Kent, BSc., ISP, FCIPS, CMC is a successful senior executive, with a national profile, known for dynamic leadership and coaching abilities as well as a proven ability to think and act strategically. Thirty years of experience in the Information Technology and Communications industries with most recent position as Senior Vice-President, Bell Aliant & Chief Operating Officer, Xwave with full profit/loss accountability for Xwave, an IT Services division of Bell Aliant, as well as executive leadership and oversight for the Enterprise Sales & Marketing function of Bell Aliant. Paul is currently President and CEO of the Greater Halifax Partnership.

John Nowlan,  BSc., MBA  is a veteran radio and television producer, journalist and small business owner. During his 30+ years with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation he won numerous awards including three Geminis as well as Fellowships to study and lecture in Britain, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. He created and produced the CBC Halifax consumer education series, "Street Cents".  In addition to running his own consulting business, he's written travel and environmental articles for all major Canadian newspapers, most recently on global warming in Antarctica.

Bruce McCulloch,
P.Eng. MBA has long had a passion for energy efficiency. During his eight years as Plant Engineering Manager with IMP Aerospace, he spearheaded numerous energy saving projects. At the same time he developed a comprehensive preventative maintenance program that successfully reduced downtime on a wide variety of plant equipment. Prior to that, Bruce was a designer and then Production Manager for an industrial fan manufacturer, working on fans as large as a two story house. Bruce has been active in the Parrsboro community for over a dozen years during which he has watched the powerful Fundy tides from the windows of his home with fascination. He earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from University of Waterloo.


MTEC's Advisory Board


Dan O'Halloran,
M.Sc., P.Eng., has over 40 years experience in planning, design and project management of engineering and construction projects. He is the founding President of O'Halloran Campbell Consultants, he has a Master’s degree in marine civil engineering and has been extensively involved at a senior level on numerous successful projects up to $300 million. Dan has played a key role in hundreds of marine and other civil engineering projects in Canada's Atlantic Region.  He is the 2006 recipient of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia’s Gold Medal Award, and the 1995 recipient of the Engineering Award. Dan also has considerable business experience. Dan is a member of the MTEC Management Team.

Geoff Channer and Graham Smith
are former owners of Focal Technologies Corporation with strong interests in projects that improve the environment.  Focal currently supplies critical electronic signal parts to Marie current turbines for its SeaGen Turbine.

Dave DeWolfe has been involved with tidal issues and studies for over 30 years.  He was head of the Tidal Division at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography for 9 years before starting Discovery Consultants Ltd., a consulting company specializing in tidal studies. Since then, he has completed numerous studies for a variety of clients both Government and private, that include the Coastal Engineering Research Centre in India, the NRC Coastal Engineering Program, and the NS Tidal Power Corporation.  He has authored a number of papers and articles relating to tides. Dave is a Principal Consultant with MTEC.


Associate Consultants


Brenda Haley is a results-oriented consultant with many years of experience in planning, managing and implementing short-term and multi-year projects and programs in the public and private sectors. A creative, analytical thinker with business savvy, she has contributed to successful new partnerships, business strategies
and multi-stakeholder initiatives across a variety of sectors. Her background includes senior roles in
the Nova Scotia Government and with the Council of Atlantic Premiers. Her private sector experience
includes working with a worldwide information technology services company and with one of Canada's
largest business-solutions companies. She has completed numerous consulting projects in a variety of
sectors including information technology, oil and gas, trade, transportation, defence and aerospace,
environment and the public sector.

Evan Cervelli is a capable and thorough researcher and analyst. He is experienced in working in business,
academia and the not for profit sector, and has excellent business communication and interpersonal
skills. His academic background is in Environmental Science, with an additional focus on Chinese Studies.
In 2010 he completed an in-country research project in China on green roofs, and gathered research and
market intelligence on tidal energy in China.

John Snow, PEng, FCMC - John's primary focus is to help define and plan major business transformation initiatives. Typical engagements involve strategic planning, advisory services, business case development, group facilitation, project governance and solution procurement.

John Wanczycki has worked with businesses, governments, R&D organizations and communities
across Canada and in 14 countries, as a senior executive and consultant. His experience includes
planning, negotiating, directing or acting as an advisor on build-operate transfer, applied R&D, technology
demonstration, and capacity-building projects, often on a public-private partnership basis. He also has
a strong background in public policy formulation and review, particularly as it relates to the promotion of
innovation, broadly defined, in knowledge-based industries. He is also President of the Environmental
Services Association of Nova Scotia.
